Cape Storm - Weather Warden Book 8by Rachel CaineGosh, I bought this book ages ago and I finally got around to reading it. I feel a little bad for this book. Sorry, book!Did I like Cape Storm? I'm not entirely sure. It started off fun and interesting with just the right amount of suspense as they drove a cruise ship into the eye of a major storm, but then it just got... odd? Old? Something. I love Joanne Baldwin, I do. And I can give or take David the Djinn. But what I am tired of is how in every book something MAJOR happens to Jo. From the first book where she becomes Djinn herself, or when she dies in another book and then again in another. She can't be trusted, she turns evil, she's ALWAYS compromised in some way and to be honest? It's getting old fast.I can understand that there needs to be a catchy plot and suspenseful mystery but for everything to ALWAYS happen to the main character, well, it's just overkill. She and David are in love, yes, but neither can really trust the other because they are always going off on their own all half-caulked. Someone is always betraying the other, even if it's not intentional, like it's a spell, or an accident. Either way, it happens. A lot.Jo always gets out of it. Sure it might take the next book to solve the compromised position she's ended up in, but it's always resolved and you're always left with the "well, I just can't trust you" card in each of the books.I started out all excited about this story and then sort of rolled my eyes. I do like the showdown at the end, but there was just something about the way events played out that bothered me.And of course - I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! Because of course Rachel Caine hooks you with one of her awesome cliff hangers. (Though they are not quite as dramatic as they are in the Morganville Vampire books) you just know there's another book on its way with resolution to the end of this one!And I will buy it, because I still enjoy the series, the writing, the characters (most of them) and even though I gnash my teeth together and cry out, "Why is it ALWAYS JO!?" I have one heck of a fun time reading these books!Weather Warden Series
