Total Eclipse - Weather Warden Book 9
Total Eclipse (Weather Warden, #9)by Rachel Caine
Weather Warden Joanne Baldwin, her husband, the djinn David, and the Earth herself have been poisoned by a substance that destroys the magic that keeps the world alive. The poison is destabilizing the entire balance of power, bestowing magic upon those who have never had it, and removing it form those who need it. It's just a matter of time before the delicate balance of nature explodes into chaos-and doom. (goodreads.com)
Methinks this might be the final Weather Warden book? At least, it certainly reads that way. I have been following this series for a couple of years now and I started out loving it, but... Isn't that always the way these things begin? "I started out loving it BUT..."I have so many series that I started out loving but ended up feeling all meh about towards the end. Some I didn't even continue with. Though the Weather Warden series kept up a good effort for most of the nine books, I felt that this last one fell flat. It was one of those "let's have everything that COULD happen HAPPEN" sorts of stories. From Joanne and David's powers manifesting themselves inside people who shouldn't have them, to the world falling apart, to David being once again hidden away from Joanne for her safety. Oh, yes, and of course, there is a fast car or two that gives Jo a cargasm even though she's fleeing for her life.As soon as the powers that Jo & David lost "woke up" in the nearest bodies of non-powerful people, I was done. I read the entire book but that plot device just made me roll my eyes so far back into my head I was afraid I'd be blind. Then there's the ending which was... well, let's just say I was highly irritated by the epilogue at the end of the last Harry Potter book. This felt exactly like that. It was a way to tie up endings and give readers supposed closure with the characters. I hate that. Let ME imagine it on my own, thank you. The ending is one of the reasons I am sure this series is over. It was a happen ending forced upon us after a rather destructive story. AND OH MY GOD THE CHILD NAMES!! *headdesk*Seriously! Both with the final Harry Potter book and this one the stupid child names "to remember those we lost". THEY SOUND SO STUPID! And not only that, for some reason if you add multiple names for multiple people, you always have to refer to your child by all names. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT? Ugh.Sorry, the epilogue thing just made me so..GAH!!For me, I found the Weather Warden series started off very strong and ended with a fizzle. It's sort of disappointing but at the same time I have at least 6 or 7 great reads out of it and it has entertained me through my summers these last couple of years.Weather Warden Series
