Weather Warden Series (part two): Books 4 & 5

I suddenly realized it's been almost FOUR months since I posted Part One of my Weather Warden series review. I had meant to post this second part shortly thereafter and then life sort of kicked me in the pants. But now here I am to tell you about books 4 through 6 5 of Rachel Caine's amazing Urban Fantasy series. When we last left Joanne Baldwin, rogue Weather Warden, she had been killed and trying to save Vegas and the world. The fourth book, Windfall, starts six months after that entire ordeal. Joanne has left the Wardens for good and has a lovely, normal job as Weather Girl on the local station's morning program. She has befriended the Bikini Girl, Cherise and is happy to finally be living a normal - and death free! - life. But then... her sister shows up on her doorstep after having been left by her husband (Joanne has a sister??), the sister then finds a new British boyfriend who is way more than he appears, and not in a good way. There is a supernatural war going on among the Djinn and they are no longer happy with the Wardens and now her boyfriend David, one a powerful Djinn is slowing morphing into an Ifrit. Yikes! It is possible that Joanne has to come to terms with the fact there is no normal life in store for her. And once again, she's out to save the world (and her sister) from impending DOOM!The whole Djinn situation isn't getting any better and in Firestorm Joanne is racing against the clock to warn the other Wardens about the approaching apocalypse. Natural disasters have been plaguing the globe and the Wardens are not strong enough to contain them. Now that the Djinn have revolted the Wardens are working on their own to try and save the world.Joanne Baldwin once again finds herself caught up in World Saving Mode. If she wasn't around I think everyone would pretty much be DOOMED. Seriously. Aside from the Djinn revolt, there's a side story with Joanne's sister and her super evil boyfriend who is still trying to get what he wants by threatening Joanne's sister's life. There's love, death and betrayal. Everything I have come to expect from these Weather Warden books. Also, sarcastic wit. I love me some sarcastic wit.I really do enjoy this series, only I have to say I am getting tired of it always being up to Joanne to save the world from either the Djinn, other wardens or humans. There is only so much I think she should be able to take before self destructing for good at some point. Sure she dies and comes back to life a lot, but you would think that would take a toll on your body. Wouldn't you?Another thing getting somewhat annoying is that every book ends in a major cliff hanger. A couple of times is ok, but each and every time? Argh! When you wait a year in-between books and you have to take up where you left off a year before, it's tiresome.Of course I will continue to read this series for now because it entertains me greatly!Weather Warden Series
